Akita, Akita Dog, Akita Breeders

Originating in Japan, Akitas were originally used to hunt large game animals in the forest. This large powerful breed is now used mostly as guard dogs, plus with the police and military.

Not for the inexperienced dog owner, this working dog has an independent and sometimes stubborn disposition. Obedience training and socialization as a pup are essential.

The breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1972.

Can be aggressive to other dogs.

Shoulder Height: up to 28 inches (70 cm)
Weight: up to 110 pounds (50 kg).
